The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) is the primary governmental body in Malaysia responsible for driving the nation’s economic growth through the promotion of investments, enhancement of industrial development, and facilitation of international trade. MITI formulates and implements policies to create a conducive environment for business, aiming to position Malaysia as a globally competitive trading nation. The ministry collaborates with various stakeholders, including other government agencies, industry players, and international organizations, to foster sustainable economic development and innovation.

Key Roles & Responsibilites

Investment Promotion: Attracting and facilitating both foreign and domestic investments in key economic sectors.
Trade Facilitation: Enhancing Malaysia’s export performance and expanding market access for Malaysian products and services.
Industrial Development: Driving the growth of industries through policy formulation, incentives, and support programs.
International Collaboration: Engaging in bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations to strengthen economic ties.
Policy Formulation: Developing and implementing policies that promote a competitive and business-friendly environment.

At the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, MITI will lead Malaysia’s delegation, aiming to showcase the nation’s rich cultural heritage, economic potential, and commitment to sustainable development. The Malaysia Pavilion, themed “Weaving a Future in Harmony,” will reflect the country’s dedication to unity, innovation, and harmonious living. Through this platform, Malaysia seeks to attract investments, forge international partnerships, and highlight its advancements in various sectors.

MITI’s primary objectives for participating in the Expo include:
Investment Attraction: Securing potential investments and export opportunities, with a target of RM13 billion.
Cultural Showcase: Presenting Malaysia’s diverse culture and heritage to a global audience.
Sustainable Development: Demonstrating Malaysia’s initiatives and innovations in sustainability and green technology.
Economic Collaboration: Building and strengthening economic ties with other participating countries and organizations.

The Malaysia Pavilion will be located on Yumeshima Island, Osaka, featuring a distinctive bamboo façade with interwoven ‘ribbons’ inspired by the traditional ‘songket’ fabric. This design symbolizes the intertwining of cultures, economies, and environments, embodying the nation’s theme of harmonious progress.
